A technique of applying powdered glass to metal and then torch or kiln firing it to it's melting point the enamel cools in brilliant colors to make an amazing decoration on your metalwork. The technique dates back to the time of the ancient Egyptians who used it on pottery and jewelry. In this class, we will focus on a foundational enameling technique, cloisonné, to introduce basic principles of enameling. Students will complete a cloisonné project, from initial drawing through final polishing. The goals of the class are to learn the whys, whens and hows of applying enamel, and to create a beautiful, finished, professional piece of jewelry that showcases your enamelwork.
